So You Want To Be a Wizard

This story begins with Nita Callahan being chased by a gang and narrowly escaping into a children’s library. While there, she finds a book entitled so you want to be a wizard. She reads for a bit, and half thinks it’s a joke - and half hopes it isn’t. Later, she takes the wizards’ oath, after learning that Joanne - the leader of the gang - has stolen her favorite space pen, hoping that she will find a way to get it back. She wakes up the next day and learns she can talk to trees and such. Then, she meets a fellow wizard, Kit, who has also just gotten his book. They start a spell together, to help find Nita’s pen, and in the process are sucked into another world. There, an evil power attempts to catch them, but they summon up some “extra power” in the form of a white hole. After escaping, they are introduced to the white hole, named Khairelikoblepharehglukumeilichephreidosd’enagouni, or Fred for short. After a long journey leading into the dark world and back again, and involving many, many perils, Nita and Kit pass the test to become wizards. And finally get started on the hard stuff.
